Monday
29th September, 2014….Docked in Budapest and sadly we leave the ship
today…..we stayed on board until about 1330 as we couldn’t check into our
Budapest Hotel until 1400 so we had a pleasant morning on board with fellow
travellers, some new folk that had joined the ship for the next cruise and some
of the folk we had travelled with that were waiting for transfers, flights
etc……and so we sadly said good bye and walked to our hotel in Budapest right in
the heart of the action! The main
shopping street and restaurant alley is just around the corner from our
hotel……we wandered the streets, so many lovely things to buy and well priced
too….also most things priced in Euros so we haven’t bothered to change any
money into Hungarian Forint…….Michael and I are both taking antibiotics trying
the kick the ‘bot’ that we all got on the boat…..I think I mentioned that even
the cruise director lost her voice so poor girl with a new lot of people
boarding…..beautiful weather in Budapest again today, approximately 20
degrees……….M & F
Tuesday
30th September, 2014….Another beautiful day in Budapest, 23 degrees
today and so we couldn’t lay about it was time to get walking……the city maps in
Budapest have good planned walking routes for one to do by oneself and as Michael missed the wonderful city tour
we did on the Sunday afternoon I wanted to introduce him to some of the sights
of Budapest……we walked for 5 hours…walked Andrassy Avenue, (Budapest’s Champs Elyse’s),
Heroes Square, the Opera House, The Zoo, Museum of Fine Arts, Szecheny Baths,
all in all some beautiful architecture……the House of Terror Museum was very sad
though as they showed many photos on the outside wall of the building of many
of those that went missing during the revolution years 1956, 1959…..also they
have a piece of the Berlin Wall there….very sad reading all the accounts of
what folk here went through to have the freedom they have today…….M & F
Wednesday
1st October, 2014……Another nice day in Budapest, however not the
clarity of the last couple of days in that the smog is creeping through
today…….however no time to sit around so off we went walking again and we did a
different walk today…..we climbed to the Statue of Liberty, so many steps but
where one gets a wonderful view of Budapest…..we coughed our lungs out getting
up there but it was worth the effort……we went to the Central Market Hall which
is in the heart of the action and what a place……fruit and veges to restaurants
to all sorts of souvenirs…..just amazing, one could shop for ever!! We walked over 2 of the 9 bridges (I think
it’s 9 bridges that cross the Danube in Budapest)…….we got ourselves sorted for
the metro tomorrow to take the train to Prague….and sadly we had to go and get
some local currency as even though the metro ticket hole in the wall displayed
all the cards it would only take cash……..one could easily spend much more time
in Budapest as it really is a lovely city however I think we have covered a lot
of the must see things……and so tonight we are going to a local restaurant for a
traditional Hungarian meal……..M & F
