Monday 23rd June, 2014
Left lodge at 8 am and a bit of wind again this morning...did a game drive though the Serengeti until mid day and then stopped at another picnic spot with our box lunch...here Michael and I wandered outside the area which pressed the panic button for the Ranger who came after us and said there were lions in the area...however when we drove out the gate away from the area, sure enough there was a male lion!!  Leaving the Serengeti we drove through the Olduvai Gorge...so dry through here..we stopped off at a Masai village and oh boy was it windy and the dust was something else, and so different to the Masai Mara village except they all wear the same sandals made from old car tyres....we are both learning to live with being covered in dust not to mention our bags and even Michael's camera which he is a bit worried about....and then we continued driving around the ring of the Ngorongoro Crater which we are going down into tomorrow for all day game drives..incredible the dryness in the gorge and then the lush green to rain forest on the crater rim and the temperature dropped about 10 degrees and it was a white out...nothing like when we came this way the other day on our way to the Serengeti and we had a clear view into the crater...got to our lodge on a mountain looking into the crater, at 5 pm so another day on the road...but we got a bottle of South African Shiraz 2012 today for US$13 so we going to have a glass before dinner at 7.30 pm, see photos below

  1. Love the photos and the South African Shiraz wine sounded pretty good too. Wet and cold here

  2. I was wondering what was hanging on those wires. Thought it might have been some sort of shrine
